Okay guys, here's the deal. Rock Star is not officially on CBS' summer schedule yet - and it's getting really late...
Kristin Veitch at eonline reported the following on her blog: http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/blog/index.jsp?uuid=bc6ad373-34d6-462d-87d5-44f29a79a53d
quote: Right now, CBS president Nina Tassler is boasting about how CBS is the most watched network, blah, blah, blah (yeah, CBS, we know you're solid!) and saying they're still deciding on the summer schedule. Big Brother is the only sure pickup, and she doesn't yet know if Rock Star will be back. Boooo...
If CBS' president "doesn't yet know," then maybe we can convince her!
So what am I suggesting? How about an old fashion letter writing campaign?
Yeah, we can email, but emails are easier to ignore - a real letter, sent through the mail is much more substantial - and therefore taken more seriously.
I want CBS to bring this show back so I'm willing to send a real letter!
Which got me to thinking, what if I sent one letter a day for a month? What if all my friends did the same thing? What if everyone who reads this site did the same thing? Could CBS ignore that? I don't think so. They haven't canceled Rock Star, they just haven't committed to a third season - so if we show that we're committed, maybe that will be enough to get them off the fence and renew the show.
I've heard before that it takes about a hundred thousand letters to have an impact on a network. Can we get to that number? I'm not sure, but it might be possible. Think about it, if I send one letter a day for a month, that's about thirty letters. So if I can convince 3333 of my closest friends to do the same thing, that gets us to the magic number!
Come on, join me! It'll be fun! And all summer as we watch our favorite show, we can feel just a little bit proud that we may have helped convince CBS to bring it back...

My plan is to get thirty or so envelopes all addressed and stamped and ready to go. That way I can just scribble out a note each day, and drop it one of the envelopes and then the mail, without much effort. If I had to find the address and then a stamp each day, the hassle factor is greater - and who needs that? I want to make this as easy as possible!
Of course, there's nothing wrong with doing several one day, and none the next. As long as I get about 30 letters sent over the course of the month, I think it'll be fine!
The mailing addresses for CBS:
CBS Television Network 51 West 52nd Street New York, NY 10019
Main Number: (212) 975-4321
Edited on March 3, 2007 to change the address - use this one instead!
Ghen Maynard Executive Vice President CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group 7800 Beverly Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90036
And yes, it is Ghen, not Glen! |

If you do choose to email, here's how to do it according to their FAQ:
http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/info_faq_contact_us.shtml Q. How do I send e-mail to CBS? A. To contact CBS via e-mail, scroll to the bottom of the CBS.com homepage and click on the "feedback" link.
And here's a direct link: email CBS
The drop down list says Rock Star: INXS - I'd think that if you direct it there, it'll be easier for them to track the number of Rock Star emails they're getting.
The letters are probably the way to have the biggest impact - but if all you can do is email, that's still great. Personally I plan to do both - it's good for them to hear from us in all ways possible. |

Another idea...go ahead and get the letters ready too! I'm not a hand-letter writer, instead I much prefer to type them up. So...I can type my letter, change the dates on them, and go ahead and print them all up at once...have them sitting next to my already stamped and addressed envelopes...and they're ready to go! |

I hope we can all post some of our letters in this thread. They'll be fun to read, plus it'll give all of us ideas, and a big long thread full of letters from us, that is indexed by Google and the other search engines, will have an impact all it's own. AND probably most important, if you post your letter, and it inspires one more person to get involved, wow! Think about how inspiring a big long thread will be?
Okay, here's my first letter - which will go out tonight.
quote: Dear CBS,
I really hope you decide to bring Rock Star back this summer. It's my favorite show - I've never missed an episode!
Cheryl Spelts
Yeah, my first letter is a little simple - but that's the point. They don't all have to be masterpieces. I'm sure I'll get more wordy in future letters, but even a simple note can be enough to have a big impact! |

I think that is a great idea !!! I am in.
I have a question though ( and it could very well be that I am out of the loop)...but do they have a band to make another rockstar, or would they just make up a new band?? I just haven't read or seen anything on it for a while. Is this a valid question ?? :) |

It's a totally valid question! But I have to believe that if CBS is even considering bringing it back, that Mark Burnett Productions has ideas about a band. I don't think we need to worry about MBP letting that opportunity go. |

Dear CBS!
PLEASE bring back Rockstar this summer. It is the best reality show on TV. I watched every episode, then voted for hours and talked about it on message boards. It became my guilty pleasure for summer!
Thank you, Jacquie |

Here's the post from Paul Mirkovich on January 25th, in case anyone missed it. And yes it's *that* Paul - from the show - the leader of the House Band! http://www.rockband.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=3699&whichpage=5

Just so you know also on the RS front. We still do not know if there will be another of RS but we are hopeful. Perhaps if everybody here sent some emails to Leslie Moonves (CBS bigwig) and Nancy Tellem (CBS bigwig) they would get the message people want it to happen.
He's right, emails are good - but letters are even better! |

I am in! Cheryl - if you have not done so already, I would post about this in all of the forums related to past Rock Star contestants.
Here is my first letter - To Whom it May Concern - I am writing in hopes to encourage you to bring the reality show "Rock Star" back this summer. Not only was the show entertaining (I naver missed an episode and still have several episodes saved in my DVR) I can actually say it was life changing for me. My mind was opened to all sorts of new music which I would have never been exposed to if it were not for the show. I also made many new friends through the message boards and traveling to see the various contestants perform. This show is not only entertaining, it is important! Shannon C.
maybe a little much, but that is why they pay interns to read the mail! |

Hello everyone. I have spoken with Nate the drummer of the house band. I used to work in music and toured all over the U.S and Canada. Had the pleasure of working with the top bands in the world. There's an old saying and it goes like this. Sometimes the very best is right in front of your own eyes and you don't see it at all. Do you have any ideas what that could be now? The shows success has been from getting good talent to audition but the real talent is the house band! How many times have they done a better rendition of the original material week after week? This group of guys are incredible and they need someone to show case their talents now. Just go back to last season and watch the videos and I think you will agree. All the different back grounds that they have I believe could make them one of the greatest bands of all time. They were great with Lucas. Delana, Toby and JD and the list goes on! Hope the producers of the show reads this now. |

Welcome Hugh. We love the House Band here and many of us have had the same thought. Here's a question tho- Could they play and be judges at the same time? They'd have to have another house band I think, and then we couldn't hear them every week. That would suck.

Hugh, I love that idea - and I think it could work. INXS and Tommy Lee gave the show some legitimacy - they got it launched. But both seasons, after the first couple of shows, the guys on the couches were not the main attraction to most viewers - it was the singers. So yeah, I believe the show could work even without a big name band, or big name musicians. And if it was the House Band? Wow!
In fact, maybe I'll mention that in my next letter! |

Hey everybody, nate morton here, drummer in OB:House. I HAD to drop a line to say thank you all so much. Thank you for the wonderful blogging throughout the season, thank you for the kind words and thank you so much for dedicating your collective time and energy to this letter writing campaign. WOW! You are all amazing! I am flattered to be a part of something that people consider important enough to get behind like this. I wish I could be more illuminating and impart useful information regarding the current status of our little show, but the truth is, I'm as much in the dark as you. Having said that, I would think it pretty difficult to ignore daily bags of mail asking for the show's return. Thanks to all of you.
warmest, nate |

How is everyone doing on their letters? Anyone want to share a sample or two? You might inspire someone else... |
