Phil Ritchie
Phil Ritchie / Photo: Monty BrintonTattooed rocker Phil Ritchie is a bundle of surprising contradictions wrapped in a coolly confident demeanor and has opened for national acts like Cake, Fuel, Bon Jovi and The Goo Goo Dolls.

Since 1997 he's fronted the Ocean City, Maryland band, Lennex, which includes brothers Brian and Brandon Luckett on guitar and drums, their cousin Derek Boening on guitar, Bruce Long on bass and Phil on lead vocals and trumpet. Friends since high school, the other members of Lennex say, "When we heard Phil sing we were blown away. The fact that he plays trumpet is just an added bonus."

Lennex's music has been described as a powerful, absorbing and widely accessible vortex of hard-rocking rhythms and ethereal melodies. The band regularly packs bars and clubs, giving everyone in their path a delightful ass kicking. Locals are commonly heard referring to their experience at a show as being "Lennexed."

For The Sake Of Simplicity

Lennex's second album is the iridescent, For the Sake of Simplicity. The first single - the funky, core-punching anthem, "Sumkind" - is in regular rotation at Delaware's WZBH, a first for an unsigned band at this well regarded rock radio institution.

In April 2000, the band unleashed the eponymously titled, "Lennex" onto their eager fans. With gale force speed, dubs of their debut record ripped through college dormitories up and down the coast.
