Matt Hoffer: Never Comfortable
If Jeff Buckley, John Mayer and the Police spent a couple of their younger years playing hard rock/metal, then mellowed out, this is what they'd sound like. An infectious modern rock record without the over-the top hooks and gimmicks that are often heard on the radio today.

Jill Gioia: He's My Bitch
Jill Gioia's "He's My Bitch" is a mainstream brand of rock that weaves crunchy guitars and propulsive choruses into provocative songs with sharp teeth and a sneer, which she sells with a confessional, soaring voice that ranges from celestial to guttural.

Marion Raven: Here I Am [IMPORT]
Norwegian-born singer/songwriter Marion Raven's Atlantic Records solo debut features songs that are dark, vengeful, mysterious, and dangerous, but ultimately uplifting and cathartic. Many of the songs, all of the written by Raven, some in collaboration with others, are about heartbreak and disappointment, the result of a real-life relationship gone bad. Everclear's Art Alexakis duets with her on the country-flavored "At The End Of The Day" and she collaborated with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe on "Heads Will Roll."

Stabilo: Happiness & Disaster
Stabilo's musical proficiency is evident throughout this hour-long sophomore release, due in part to the disc's highly respected producer, Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Sunny Day Real Estate.) One of the CD's strongest tracks, "Kidding Ourselves," would fit perfectly between Coldplay and Maroon 5 on mainstream radio, while the rockier first single "Flawed Design" showcases the lads' clever lyrics via a track that describes the type of internal dialogue that would run through the head of an emotional manipulator. Just like life itself, Happiness & Disaster isn't perfect--"Delivering Idiots" admittedly owes more than a few props to Radiohead's "Creep" (right through the painfully familiar-sounding guitar solo)--but don't let that low point throw you off. This is not intended as a singles-oriented album; it is, instead, a full-length collection of emotion and introspection set to strongly-crafted melodies, and will undoubtedly gain further respect with each listen. --Denise Sheppard

Lovehammers: Marty Casey & Lovehammers

Lovehammers: Murder on My Mind
Lovehammers have stepped up to put the spark back in modern rock and they've brought their welder's torches with them. It's about time a band has turned up with full guns drawn, ready to delve out some serious rock and roll without skimping on the sex and debauchery that grunge so foolishly discarded. Their latest release Murder on My Mind, which has independently sold over 8,000 copies, encapsulates the Lovehammers' arrival as an act that sweeps aside the mope for pure sweat and energy. Murder collects the best elements of grunge and hard rock with a twist of punk that stems from the pure adrenaline the band possesses. Singer Martin Casey has best been described as a cross between Mick Jagger and Axl Rose, while the Kourelis brothers man the rhythm section with a sex appeal that is reminiscent to the early days of rock-n-roll. At the same time, guitarist Billy Sawichik effortlessly rips through riffs and chords to complete this power quartet.

Bona Roba: Reach In and Get Her
The raucous debut album from Bona Roba, entitled "Reach In And Get Her," is 100% balls to the wall rock-n-roll. Drawing off influences from 70s era Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy, and New York Dolls, the band delivers a lo-fi, strut-garage rock album spiked with the attitude of punk and the voltage of a stadium supergroup. Recorded for $1,600, "Reach In And Get Her" is 37+ minutes of sweaty sex. This is lipstick and tight skirts. This is cold beer and backseat love. This is the Friday rock-n-roll party album that turns the night from good to gold. Dance!
